Restoration of Water Bodies using Floating Fountains

Aeration of water bodies can be achieved by introducing oxygen rich water into stagnant water and inducing water currents; to get water circulating thus spreading oxygenated water and bringing oxygen starved water from the bottom to the surface. One of the simplest and most effective ways of doing this is to use Floating Aerating Fountains.

Floating Aerating Fountains is specifically designed for aeration as the water is thrown to the maximum diameter thus promoting widest circulation. Larger floating fountains are also used for large water bodies or where a more spectacular water display is desired. Since they float on the surface, installation is easy and no infrastructure like a pump house or pipelines is required.

Benefits:

  • The results are achieved in a natural way without chemicals and no compressed air, ozone or oxygen source is required.
  • Aeration keeps a water body healthy by maintaining aerobic (with oxygen) conditions for life support of aerobic micro-organisms which are more energy efficient than and hence able to out compete the anaerobic (without oxygen) organisms which produce septic conditions and odour.
  • Aeration will maintain a water body in better condition, eliminating odour and encouraging fish and aquatic life growth and health.
  • It can reduce sedimentation and assist in controlling algae. However algae contrails a complex subject and aeration alone may not be sufficient if for example organic material or fertilizers find their way into the water body.
  • Water bodies for which aeration is beneficial include: ponds, lakes, tanks, reservoirs and water hazards on golf courses. Storage tanks or lagoons where Industrial and process water or secondary treated sewage discharge or other waste water is stored also require aeration to introduce oxygen (O2) to meet the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and thus to treat or improve the water.

Case Study & Facts:

The lakes at Bhopal city in the state of Madhya Pradesh,India are heavily contaminated by sewage and industrial and other waste and Premier Floating Fountains have been used as part of a Japanese Government sponsored programme to improve the water-quantity and have- demonstrated a considerable improvement in oxygen levels.

  • A Premier COMPACT FLOATING FOUNTAIN (CCF) will typically introduce 0.30 to 0.34 kg of oxygen per hour.
  • A HIGH AND HEAVY CASCADE (model PF 100P) will typically introduce 1.0 to 1.2 kg of oxygen per hour.
